Amnesty International Urges EU to Address Critical Food Shortage in Gaza

Gaza: Amnesty International Secretary General Agnes Callamard has called on international actors, particularly the European Union, to take decisive action to halt what she describes as Israel's genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Callamard highlighted the dire situation resulting from military actions and policies that have left the region "completely foodless." According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Callamard issued a press statement urging relevant parties to exert pressure on Israel to permit the entry of essential supplies such as food, water, and medicine into Gaza. She stressed the importance of holding accountable those responsible for what she termed as genocide and war crimes. Her remarks are based on field observations and monitoring of the ongoing 19-month conflict, exacerbated by Israel's comprehensive blockade imposed on March 2. Callamard pointed out the critical humanitarian situation in Gaza, where the depletion of food and essential resources has reached ala rming levels, particularly following the resumption of military actions by Israel in March. She echoed concerns raised by global organizations, stating, "The World Food Organization, the World Health Organization, and all other UN and humanitarian organizations are sounding the alarm: There is no more food in Gaza." Emphasizing the gravity of the crisis, Callamard repeatedly highlighted the absence of food in Gaza, describing the conditions as "absolutely terrifying" and characterizing the situation as "genocide in plain sight."
