Amman: Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh today met with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al-Safadi to discuss developments in the occupied Palestinian Territory and ongoing coordination and consultations between the two sides.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the meeting focused on the dangerous deterioration in the occupied West Bank. The two sides warned against the continuation of Israel's illegitimate actions, including terrorist attacks by colonists, colonial settlement expansion, land confiscation, and the siege imposed on the Palestinian economy, which are pushing the West Bank toward an explosion. They described these actions as a clear violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, which entrench the occupation and undermine prospects for peace.
Both parties condemned the escalation of terrorist attacks by colonists against Palestinians, as well as Israel's continued systematic campaign targeting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). This includes the tightening of restrictions on the agency and its institutions in occupied Jerusalem. They also criticized the decision by the occupation authorities to issue tenders for the construction of colonial settlement units as part of the "E1" project east of occupied Jerusalem, characterizing the move as a breach of international law and humanitarian standards.
The need to halt Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem was emphasized, alongside Israel's systematic attempts to alter the historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites. The importance of implementing the outcomes of the ministerial meeting in support of Jerusalem and its holy sites, which Jordan hosted on August 8, was also stressed.
Regarding developments in the Gaza Strip, the two sides called for consolidating stability, fully implementing all provisions of US President Donald Trump's plan for Gaza, and ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip to alleviate the ongoing crisis. They urged regional and international efforts to halt Israel's actions and affirmed that an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is essential for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
Finally, the two sides agreed to continue cooperation and coordination on developments and issues of common interest. The meeting was attended by Fatah Central Committee member Majed Faraj and President of the Palestinian National Council Rawhi Fattouh.
