Ramallah:Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin has called for an end to Palestinian suffering and advocated for a just political solution grounded in international law and human dignity.
According to Palestine news & Information Agency, Parolin's remarks were made during his address to the United Nations General Assembly at the High-Level Ministerial Meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
He highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, emphasizing its connection to the broader Palestinian context and calling for the protection of civilians and adherence to international humanitarian law. Parolin argued that humanitarian aid alone cannot resolve the conflict without addressing its root causes.
The cardinal reaffirmed the Holy See's support for the Palestinian people's inalienable rights, including self-determination and the right to live in a secure and sovereign state. He cautioned against actions that threaten the territorial integrity of Palestinian territories, such as the expansion of Israeli settlements.
Parolin condemned violence against Christian communities in the West Bank and underscored the importance of maintaining the historic Christian presence in the Holy Land. He also reiterated the necessity of protecting Jerusalem's special status and its holy sites.
He concluded by stating that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, respect for international law, and a political process that addresses the legitimate rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.
