UNRWA Raises Alarm Over Security Conditions in Hebron

Hebron:The UN Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has expressed grave concern over the unfolding situation in Hebron. The city, the largest in the occupied West Bank, has been experiencing significant security challenges imposed by Israeli occupation forces since October 23.

According to Palestine news & Information Agency – WAFA – English, Roland Friedrich, the Director of UNRWA Affairs for the West Bank, highlighted that over 3,000 Palestinians have reportedly been displaced from their homes due to a large-scale operation by Israeli security forces. This operation has included extensive demolitions of houses and private property, leading to severe restrictions on freedom of movement and access to critical services for residents.

Friedrich noted the alarming resemblance of these events to the massive displacement in the northern occupied West Bank in early 2025, where more than 34,000 Palestine refugees from Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams camps remain displaced over a year later. He emphasized that any form of collective punishment is contrary to international law and called for the return of those forcibly displaced, with their rights respected under international law.

UNRWA is collaborating with other humanitarian partners and the Palestinian Authority to address urgent needs in Hebron. This includes working with the Hebron Governorate and Municipality to distribute emergency assistance such as blankets, mattresses, and pillows to families affected by the ongoing crisis.
