UNICEF: Over One Million Children in Gaza Need Water and Food

Gaza: Over one million children in Gaza still need water and food, and thousands of children go to bed hungry every night despite the ceasefire agreement, with 650,000 of them needing to return to school.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Ingram explained that the ceasefire is “good news” as it means an end to the daily bombardment that was killing children. However, she stressed that it “is not enough on its own to end hunger or ensure families have access to safe drinking water.”

Ingram further elaborated that families in Gaza continue to struggle daily to survive, with the infrastructure that provided water and medical care for children severely damaged, making access to these basic services extremely difficult.

She mentioned that although the amount of aid entering the Gaza Strip after the ceasefire began had increased slightly during the first two weeks, it remains “still woefully inadequate,” with quantities far below pre-war levels.

The UNICEF spokesperson highlighted that
thousands of children are still going to bed hungry, while others in hospitals suffer from treatable illnesses. The lack of doctors and medicine is leaving them to suffer without treatment.
