New york: The United Nations announced that Israel has displaced over 1,000 Palestinians in the West Bank since the beginning of this year, specifically in the area classified as Area C.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq stated at a press conference that UN data shows more than 1,000 people have been displaced in Area C. This region comprises approximately 60 percent of the West Bank, and the displacements are a result of home demolitions carried out since the start of the year.
Haq highlighted that attacks by the Israeli army and colonists in the West Bank have increased over the past two years. This escalation coincides with the conflict in Gaza, where a ceasefire came into effect on October 11th.
He noted that most of the displaced Palestinians lost their homes due to demolitions justified by a lack of building permits. This displacement level is reported as the second highest annual rate since 2009.
Israeli authorities regularly demolish Palestinian homes and buildings in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, citing the absence of permits. Official data indicates that Israeli authorities severely restrict Palestinian construction and agricultural activities in Area C, making it nearly impossible for Palestinians to obtain building permits.
