Gaza: The United Nations has reiterated its urgent call for the safe and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, warning of a sharp rise in severe malnutrition amid ongoing conflict and displacement. Speaking at a press briefing late Monday, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said, 'Amid bombardment, displacement, and destruction in Gaza, alarming reports continue to emerge of individuals suffering from acute malnutrition arriving at medical facilities in extremely poor health.' According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, UN agencies operating in Gaza have warned that living conditions in the territory are becoming nearly uninhabitable, and emphasized the need to protect civilians and ensure uninterrupted humanitarian access for the more than two million people facing the threat of famine. Dujarric noted that approximately 87.7% of Gaza is now under evacuation orders or designated as evacuation zones, effectively trapping around 2.1 million people in fragmented areas with little or no access to essential services. Over 1.3 million people are in urgent need of shelter and basic supplies, he added, as extreme weather conditions, high humidity, overcrowding, and repeated dismantling of makeshift shelters and plastic tents continue to worsen an already dire humanitarian situation. He also revealed that no shelter materials have been permitted into Gaza for over four months, and the ongoing fuel crisis further threatens relief operations.
