Gaza City: United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher announced that humanitarian agencies have been mobilizing supplies to scale up aid delivery across the Gaza Strip, in preparation for the ceasefire agreement, which is set to go into effect on Sunday. He emphasized the importance of upholding the ceasefire as it offers hope to millions affected by the conflict.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Fletcher called for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, ensuring safe and unrestricted access for aid workers to reach those in need, regardless of their location. He stressed the necessity of removing all barriers to the entry of essential aid and enabling the flow of commercial supplies.
Fletcher urged the Security Council to use its collective influence to maintain the ceasefire, respect international law, and eliminate obstacles hindering lifesaving efforts. He also called on Member States to ensure sufficient funding for humanitarian operations to address the immense needs.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Fletcher noted the challenges in delivering support to survivors despite the ceasefire, underscoring the critical nature of the current circumstances.
