Gaza: UN experts have expressed outrage by the killing of six more Palestinian journalists, including two women, in multiple Israeli strikes in Gaza over the past 10 days. At least 248 journalists have now been killed in Gaza, more than in any other war in modern times, according to a joint statement by the experts.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the experts highlighted that Israel continues to deny access to any international media while targeting local journalists who are crucial in documenting the unfolding crisis in Gaza. The statement emphasized the dire conditions journalists face, including starvation, loss of family members, and being targeted by the Israeli military, yet they persist in reporting the ongoing atrocities.
The experts demanded independent criminal investigations into the killings and attacks on journalists in Gaza and across the Palestinian territory. They called for full reparation and justice for the families of the journalists and an end to what they described as unprecedented impunity enjoyed by Israel.
Furthermore, the experts urged Israel to grant full and free access to international media, believing that such presence could offer a degree of safety to local journalists and ensure continuous reporting to the global community. They called on the international community, including member states and key UN organs, to take immediate action to prevent the silencing of the last voices in Gaza.
