Ramallah: British Minister for the Middle East Hamish Falconer stated that Israel has the obligation to implement the set of provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Falconer, in a statement to the British House of Commons, urged Israel to 'lift the block on aid entering Gaza now,' emphasizing the critical situation as 'Israel's denial of aid is appalling.' He highlighted the dire consequences of the blockade, pointing out that 'tonnes of food are currently sitting rotting at the Gaza/Israel border, blocked from reaching people who are starving.'
Falconer criticized Israeli ministers' admission that the blockade was intended as a 'pressure lever,' and condemned the action as 'cruel and indefensible.' He also expressed concern over ongoing violence, noting that 'overnight yet more Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes,' and reiterated the need for an immediate cessation of such actions.
The minister also referenced the ongoing lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel in the ICJ on charges of genocide. Falconer affirmed Britain's support for the ICJ, its independence, and the provisional measures it has issued in the case.
