Tunis: Tunisia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Nafti, emphasized that the humanitarian suffering endured by the Palestinian people cannot be normalized or reduced to mere statements, statistics, and figures recited at international meetings.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Nafti made his remarks during a joint press conference with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy, following the 166th regular session of the Council of the Arab League at the foreign ministers' level. Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia's unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to establish an independent, fully sovereign state on their land, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He highlighted that the Arab region is facing unprecedented developments and complex challenges that necessitate stronger Arab solidarity and concerted action to counter attacks and military escalation. This is essential to end the humanitarian tragedy endured by the Palestinian people. Nafti underscored that the Palestinian cause remains a priority for joint Arab action, emphasizing that the ongoing violations against the Palestinian people should not become an imposed reality accepted by the international community.
Nafti stressed that achieving security and stability in the Middle East and globally requires a complete end to the Israeli occupation. He argued that the focus should not be on merely managing the crisis but on resolving it entirely, allowing the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate historical rights, including self-determination and the establishment of a sovereign state.
Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy also addressed the meeting, stating that developing and reforming the system of joint Arab action is crucial for addressing the growing challenges to Arab national security. He expressed concern over the ongoing Israeli escalation and violations in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon, and reiterated the Arab rejection of forceful actions in the Gulf region, particularly referring to Iranian attacks on Arab countries.
Fahmy noted that Arab consultations highlighted the need to move beyond issuing statements towards taking practical actions. He mentioned that the Jerusalem Committee had issued a statement addressing Israeli violations and that proposals to protect Jerusalem and its holy sites were discussed, submitted by the Palestinian Foreign Minister.
