Gaza: The Israeli occupation court at Salem military camp has sentenced Ata Hassan Atiya Rmeilat-Abu Rmeileh, the 67-year-old secretary of the Fatah Movement regional branch in Jenin, to 42 months in prison and imposed a fine of 5,000 shekels.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Alaa Abu Rmeileh, the son of the detainee, reported that his father was detained from their home in Jenin city on October 31, 2023. During the detention, Israeli occupation forces allegedly assaulted him. Since then, he has been held under harsh detention conditions and has faced prolonged court proceedings.
The son emphasized concerns about his father's deteriorating health, highlighting that he requires open-heart surgery. Abu Rmeileh, a significant political and organizational figure in the Jenin Governorate, has held the position of secretary for the Fatah Movement regional branch for many years. His contributions to the political and community landscape in the region have been substantial.
In March 2025, the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs issued a warning regarding the serious decline in Abu Rmeileh's health. Reports indicated that his weight had dropped below 40 kilograms, and he was experiencing heart issues necessitating specialized medical intervention, including the requirement for open-heart surgery.
