Tel Aviv: The head of the Democratic Party, retired Israeli Major General Yair Golan, has spoken out against the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza, accusing it of “killing children as a hobby” amidst the ongoing conflict.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Golan made these remarks during a press statement on Tuesday. He warned that Israel risks becoming a pariah state akin to South Africa during its apartheid era if it does not act as a rational state. Golan emphasized that a rational state should not wage war against civilians, target children, or aim to displace populations.
Golan criticized the current Israeli government, describing it as being filled with figures disconnected from Judaism and influenced by Kahanist ideologies, referring to followers of Rabbi Meir Kahane. He expressed concern over their ability to manage state affairs during emergencies, labeling the situation as dangerous to Israel’s existence.
The retired general urged for a change in government, believing that such a shift is necessary to end the war. He noted that since the military operation ended last year, the conflict has shifted to pursue more political objectives for the government’s survival rather than strategic military goals.
