Gaza strip: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) today facilitated the transfer of 37 detainees, including a woman, who were released and transported from the Kerem Shalom crossing to Nasser Medical Complex in the Gaza Strip. The ICRC also facilitated their communication and reunification with their families.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the ICRC has facilitated the transfer of more than 2,700 released detainees in this manner since 2023. However, the organization noted that it has been unable to access detainees held in Israeli detention facilities since October 2023.
The ICRC stressed the importance of being informed of the fate and whereabouts of all detainees and emphasized the need for access to them. The organization highlighted that detainees must be treated humanely, provided with appropriate detention conditions, and allowed to communicate with their families, in accordance with international humanitarian law.
The ICRC also pointed out that many Palestinian families are anxiously awaiting news about their detained loved ones, amid concerns over their health and safety. The organization affirmed its commitment to continue dialogue with Israeli authorities to resume visits to all Palestinian detainees.
