Nablus: President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday sent letters to a number of leaders of Arab and friendly countries, the European Union, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, and the President of the United Nations Security Council, calling for urgent international action to stop the ongoing Israeli military aggression and Israeli colonist violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas highlighted in his letters that the occupied Palestinian territory is witnessing a dangerous escalation due to continuous attacks by Israeli forces and armed colonist groups against Palestinians. This has resulted in hundreds of civilian casualties, the destruction of property, the burning of homes, religious sites, trees and agricultural land, and attacks on Palestinian villages and communities, under the protection and direct support of the Israeli military and government.
The President described the situation as exceeding isolated incidents of violence, labeling it as a systematic Israeli policy aimed at creating new realities on the ground through settlement expansion, escalating colonist violence, and undermining the Palestinian National Authority. He emphasized that these actions deliberately jeopardize the prospects of a two-state solution and threaten regional security and stability.
President Abbas cautioned that these policies are designed to displace Palestinians from their land and warned of the serious consequences such actions could have on regional tensions and international efforts to achieve peace.
He urged the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by taking urgent and practical steps to pressure the Israeli government to halt colonist attacks, hold those responsible accountable, cease all settlement activities, and implement relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334. This resolution affirms the illegality of Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory and calls for providing international protection for the Palestinian people while ensuring Israel complies with its obligations under international law and international humanitarian law.
President Abbas also reaffirmed the State of Palestine's commitment to a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, international legitimacy, the rejection of violence and extremism, and cooperation with international partners to promote security, stability, and peace in the region.
