Ramallah: President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas has declared Palestine's readiness to engage with US President Donald Trump, mediators, and partners to secure a just and comprehensive peace, adhering to international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas made these remarks during a joint press conference with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah. He emphasized the significant role Greece, backed by the European Union, could play in promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond.
President Abbas highlighted the necessity for international pressure on the Israeli government to cease actions that undermine Palestinian national institutions, attacks on religious sites, and threats to the two-state solution through settlement expansion. He also stressed the importance of releasing withheld Palestinian tax revenues.
The Palestinian leader called for the swift implementation of President Trump's plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803, focusing on enforcing a ceasefire and ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid. He urged for the withdrawal of Israeli forces and for the Palestinian government to fully assume its responsibilities, alongside accelerating reconstruction efforts.
President Abbas described the Greek Prime Minister's visit as a reflection of the deep historical friendship between the two nations, noting shared values within Mediterranean neighborhood relations and EU partnership. He expressed gratitude for Greece's support of Palestinian rights in international forums and its humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his satisfaction in meeting President Abbas to discuss crucial issues and reaffirmed Greece's commitment to dialogue, stability, and peace in the Middle East. He conveyed condolences for the loss of civilians in Gaza and emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and adhering to international law.
Mitsotakis highlighted Greece's proactive humanitarian efforts and significant aid contributions, coordinated with international partners. He reiterated Greece's commitment to supporting the two-state solution as the basis for lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis, valuing Greece's role in the UN Security Council.
