Cairo: President Mahmoud Abbas met today with the chief editors of Egyptian newspapers and several senior Egyptian writers and journalists, on the sidelines of his visit to Cairo to attend the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum scheduled for Saturday.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the president briefed them on the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian Territory and the ongoing Israeli escalation against the Palestinian people, in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem.
President Abbas discussed the difficult humanitarian situation in Gaza and stressed the importance of continued efforts to maintain the ceasefire, ensure the sustained entry of aid, advance reconstruction, and prevent displacement and annexation.
President Abbas also highlighted Israeli violations and colonists’ terrorism, as well as the ongoing attacks against Palestinians and their property across the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, in addition to continued violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites.
The President underscored the importance of the Arab, particularly Egyptian, role in supporting the Palestinian cause and safeguarding the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people.
The president expressed his deep appreciation to President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and to Egypt’s steadfast leadership, government, and people for their constant support of the Palestinian cause and their efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy, prevent displacement, and provide humanitarian assistance.
President Abbas praised the responsible role of the Egyptian media in conveying the suffering of the Palestinian people to Arab and international public opinion, emphasizing that Egyptian journalists and media professionals have long been vital partners in defending Palestinian rights and raising global awareness of the Palestinian cause.
For their part, the Egyptian editors and writers affirmed their full support for the rights of the Palestinian people and commended President Abbas’s efforts to preserve national principles, promote Palestinian unity, and end the Israeli occupation.
