Ramallah: President Mahmoud Abbas received a delegation of Israeli peace activists at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, emphasizing the importance of a two-state solution for achieving long-term peace and stability in the region.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas praised the relentless efforts of the peace activists towards achieving a resolution that ensures security and stability for both Palestinians and Israelis. He highlighted that the continued denial by extremist forces in Israel of the Palestinian right to self-determination and independence only perpetuates instability and insecurity, as has been observed over several decades.
President Abbas expressed a willingness to engage with all groups supporting peace, recalling the proximity to peace achieved during the Oslo Accords with the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. He reiterated the commitment to pursuing dialogue as a strategic choice and condemned all forms of violence and terrorism. The President explicitly condemned the actions of Hamas on October 7th, as well as the responses from occupation forces and settlers affecting Palestinians in various regions.
Further, President Abbas outlined a reform agenda, indicating plans for elections, drafting of a provisional constitution, and the enactment of a political parties law post-hostilities in Gaza. He emphasized a rejection of antisemitism, aligning with values and principles held by his administration.
The President also underscored the importance of implementing the second phase of President Trump's plan, which involves Hamas relinquishing control over Gaza, disarmament, and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces to facilitate reconstruction.
He criticized the Israeli occupation authorities for their settlement activities and other unilateral actions, noting these have led to Israel's isolation in the international arena. Concluding his address, President Abbas called for a peace agreement based on international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative to ensure regional security, prosperity, and peaceful coexistence.
