President Abbas Emphasizes National Unity and Reform Amid Challenges

Ramallah: President Mahmoud Abbas has reiterated his commitment to national unity and comprehensive reform in the face of ongoing challenges impacting the Palestinian people and their rights. He addressed concerns regarding discussions and campaigns on social media that, at times, spread incitement and misinformation, potentially undermining the national interest.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas emphasized that loyalty to the sacrifices of martyrs, prisoners, and their families is a national and moral duty, not to be exploited for political gain or division. He underscored the constitutional responsibilities of his office, which include issuing decrees to protect the Palestinian political system and ensure the continuity of state institutions.

President Abbas outlined a comprehensive national reform program aimed at modernizing the legal and institutional framework of the State of Palestine. This includes promoting good governance, transparency, accountability, and the separation of powers. The program also focuses on reviewing legislation related to financial governance, public administration, the judiciary, and anti-corruption measures to ensure fairness and efficiency.

The reform efforts extend to constitutional and political areas, preparing for a transition to statehood, updating election laws, and enacting a modern political party law. These initiatives are in line with the Palestine Liberation Organization's political program, international legitimacy, and the two-state solution principle.

In the social sphere, President Abbas highlighted the issuance of Decree-Law No. (4) of 2025, aimed at unifying the social protection and welfare system to ensure justice and transparency. He clarified that the Palestinian National Economic Empowerment Institution 'Tamkeen' is an executive body without legislative or political authority.

The education sector is also a focus of reform, with plans to update curricula to align with international standards while promoting tolerance and respect for the law. President Abbas called for maintaining national unity, civil peace, and protecting legitimate institutions to counter occupation and aggressive actions.

President Abbas urged the Palestinian people to uphold national responsibility, respect the law, and prioritize the national interest. He reaffirmed the commitment to the struggle for freedom, independence, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
