Damascus: President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas met today with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shara on the sidelines of the emergency Arab Summit. During the course of their discussions, they delved into the latest developments concerning the Palestinian territories. President Abbas reiterated that the Gaza Strip remains an inseparable part of the State of Palestine, maintaining the same political and legal jurisdiction as other Palestinian territories.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas outlined plans to initiate the provision of basic services for Palestinians returning to their homes, setting the stage for reconstruction with international support. He emphasized the urgent need to solidify the ceasefire, deliver aid, and ensure the complete withdrawal of occupation forces. Furthermore, he highlighted the necessity for the Palestinian National Authority to fully assume its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip and called for an end to unilateral actions, settlement expansion, and annexation efforts in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
President Abbas underscored the importance of the international community, particularly the United Nations and the Security Council, in holding the occupying state accountable for its actions against Palestinian people, land, and holy sites. He urged a halt to settlement activities and expansion projects that contravene international law and defy global consensus.
During the meeting, President Abbas expressed pride in the longstanding fraternal ties between Palestine and Syria, reiterating his commitment to further strengthening these relations. The meeting was attended by key officials including Hussein Al-Sheikh, Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Majdi Al-Khalidi, Advisor to the President for Diplomatic Affairs, and Diab Al-Louh, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
