Poland Assumes EU Council Presidency with Focus on Security

WARSAW: Poland has taken over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, commencing its term on January 1, 2025. The presidency, which will continue until June 30, 2025, marks Poland’s leadership role in steering discussions and decisions within the EU during this period.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Poland has outlined a series of priorities centered on enhancing security across the European Union. The official website of Poland’s presidency in the EU Council indicates that Warsaw aims to address and strengthen European security amid rising geopolitical tensions. The agenda also highlights concerns over the erosion of the rules-based international order and notes the impact of hybrid attacks on European democracy and security.

During its presidency, Poland is expected to focus on collaborative strategies to fortify the EU’s security framework. This initiative comes at a time when member states are increasingly confronted with challenges that threaten regional stability and the democratic structures within the union. Poland’s leadership will likely involve coordinating with other EU nations to develop comprehensive responses to these multifaceted issues, ensuring that security remains a central theme throughout its presidency term.
