Ramallah: A report by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) on the wholesale price index during 2025 and the fourth quarter of 2025 showed a sharp increase in the wholesale price index by 9.12% during 2025.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the overall Wholesale Price Index in Palestine during 2025 recorded an increase of 9.12% compared with 2024. This included a significant rise of 25.03% for locally consumed products and a 1.90% increase for imported products. These changes in the WPI for 2025 were attributed to shifts in various sectors, with the wholesale trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, experiencing a 10.30% increase, while the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles saw a decline of 2.42%.
The report also highlighted that the wholesale price index for the fourth quarter of 2025 declined significantly following the announcement of a ceasefire. The overall Wholesale Price Index in Palestine during this quarter registered a sharp decrease of 19.20% compared with the previous quarter. This included a 37.18% drop for locally consumed products and a 7.52% decrease for imported products.
The changes in the WPI for the fourth quarter of 2025 were further explained by fluctuations in various divisions and categories. Notably, the wholesale trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles, experienced a 20.66% decrease. Additionally, the wholesale of gaseous fuels dropped dramatically by 74.72%, while the wholesale of live animals fell by 52.80%. Other notable declines included wholesale of fish, meat, and their products by 27.84%, and wholesale of dairy products and eggs by 17.32%.
Conversely, some categories saw increases in the fourth quarter, such as the wholesale of solid fuels, which rose by 38.38%, and the wholesale of animal and vegetable oils and fats, which increased by 3.14%. The wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles saw a slight decline of 1.25%, while the wholesale or retail of new vehicles decreased by 2.79%.
