Ramallah: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Palestine experienced significant fluctuations in December 2025, as reported by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS). This period marked the third consecutive month of declines in consumer goods prices within the Gaza Strip, following a ceasefire declaration. These changes led to a notable decrease of 11.54% in the CPI in Gaza Strip compared to November 2025. In contrast, a slight increase of 0.56% was observed in Jerusalem, and a 0.23% rise in the West Bank, culminating in an overall decline of 3.76% in Palestine's CPI.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the fluctuations in the Palestinian CPI during December 2025 were attributed to variations in the prices of several key expenditure subgroups. Eggs saw a substantial price drop of 35.21%, while white flour prices decreased by 26.71%. Dried vegetables and liquid fuel for cars also saw considerable declines of 21.61% and 17.40%, respectively. Other significant reductions were observed in the prices of fresh chicken (14.27%), potatoes and other tubers (13.10%), and pulses (10.90%).
Additional categories also contributed to the overall CPI changes, with other sugar and sugar substitutes decreasing by 7.62%, fresh meat by 6.45%, and fresh vegetables by 6.26%. The prices of tea and fresh fruit also fell, by 5.96% and 5.91% respectively.
The report further highlighted a year-over-year CPI decrease of 42.90% when compared with December 2024, driven by a dramatic 70.74% decrease in the Gaza Strip. Conversely, Jerusalem experienced a 2.80% increase, while the West Bank saw a 1.05% rise during the same period.
