Jerusalem: A young Palestinian man was injured by Israeli occupation forces' gunfire on Tuesday night in the town of Beit Hanina, north of occupied Jerusalem. The incident occurred near the separation barrier, with the severity of the injury yet to be disclosed.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Jerusalem Governorate reported that the young man was shot near the separation barrier in Beit Hanina. Local sources indicated that Israeli forces pursued several workers near the separation wall and opened fire, resulting in the injury of one of the workers.
Since the beginning of this year, 15 workers have been killed by Israeli occupation forces' fire during chases inside the 1948 territories, or after falling from the separation wall while attempting to cross into Israel for work. This data, provided by the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions, highlights the ongoing risks faced by Palestinian workers.
In recent months, hundreds of workers have experienced detentions and abuse by Israeli police, often under the pretext of lacking entry permits. Since October 2023, the federation has documented the killing of 42 workers and the detention of more than 32,000 others.
The situation has been exacerbated since Israel revoked the work permits of West Bank workers following the outbreak of its aggression on Gaza on October 7, 2023. This revocation has prevented approximately 150,000-200,000 West Bank Palestinians from working, intensifying the economic challenges faced by many families.
