Palestinian Red Crescent Society Denies Claims of Replacing UNRWA in Jerusalem

Jerusalem: The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has denied claims made by Israeli media regarding its alleged winning of a tender issued by the Israeli Ministry of Health to replace the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Jerusalem. In a statement issued Thursday evening, PRCS reaffirmed its steadfast position rejecting any role as a substitute for UNRWA, despite ongoing attempts by various entities to involve it in tasks traditionally handled by the UN agency or to accept funds previously allocated to it.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the PRCS disclosed that the latest such attempt was by the Israeli Ministry of Health, which reportedly sought to hand over the Bab Al-Zawiya clinic, a facility operated by UNRWA in Jerusalem, to the PRCS branch in the city in exchange for financial support.

The organization emphasized its commitment to its humanitarian mission and its refusal to engage in any actions that would undermine the role of UNRWA, a critical agency for Palestinian refugees.
