Amman:Palestinian media has effectively communicated the Palestinian people's narrative globally, despite facing restrictions from social media platforms and the Israeli occupation, as stated by Ahmad Assaf, General Supervisor of Official Media. Assaf emphasized the significant sacrifices made by Palestinian journalists and the need for Arab digital platforms to present the Palestinian perspective in various languages.
According to Palestine news and Information Agency – WAFA, Assaf made these comments during the Future of Media and Communication Forum's main session in Amman, Jordan. The session, attended by notable figures such as Princess Rym Ali and several regional ministers, focused on the challenges and changes in the media landscape.
Assaf highlighted the heavy toll on Palestinian journalists, noting that over 260 have been killed since October 7, 2023, with many more injured or detained. He attributed the successful global communication of the Palestinian narrative to the determination of Palestinian and Arab journalists, alongside international supporters.
He called for strengthened Arab dialogue to establish dedicated platforms or engage with existing social media to combat content restrictions and bias favoring the occupation's narrative, ensuring adherence to international laws.
The forum, organized by the Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists in partnership with Jordan's Ministry of Government Communication, addressed media challenges like misinformation, hate speech, declining trust in traditional media, and the role of artificial intelligence in content production. Participants included media leaders and experts like Anthony Bellanger, Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, and Noha Bawazir.
