Gaza: The Jerusalem Governorate announced on Friday that the Palestinian man who was shot by Israeli occupation forces the previous night at the Shuafat refugee camp checkpoint, northeast of occupied Jerusalem, has died.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the victim was identified as 47-year-old Khalil Rashad Hamed al-Rashq from the Dahiyat al-Salam neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem. Israeli authorities withheld his body following the incident.
In a statement, the Jerusalem Governorate expressed that Israeli military checkpoints and inspection points have become 'death checkpoints' and systematic tools used by Israeli authorities to restrict Palestinian movement and target their lives through excessive and unlawful use of force and field executions.
Al-Rashq was reported to be married and a father of four daughters and a son. His family revealed that he suffered from epilepsy, adding a personal dimension to the tragedy.
The governorate further stated that al-Rashq's killing is part of a broader pattern of systematic Israeli policy targeting Palestinians in Jerusalem and across the occupied Palestinian territory. This policy is reflected in the expanding use of lethal force alongside attacks carried out by Israeli colonists under the protection of occupation forces.
In response to the incident, the governorate called on the international community, the United Nations, and relevant human rights bodies to take urgent and practical steps to halt these violations, hold those responsible accountable, and provide international protection for the Palestinian people.
