Palestinian Journalist Bushra al-Taweel Endures Harsh Solitary Confinement Conditions

Beersheba:Palestinian journalist and detainee Bushra al-Taweel, aged 33, is experiencing severe conditions in solitary confinement under Israeli occupation. She has been held in these conditions for nearly 50 days, facing repeated cell raids, beatings, tear gas exposure, verbal abuse, and other mistreatment as reported by the Palestinian Prisoner's Society on Sunday.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA – English, a recent visit by the society revealed that al-Taweel has endured repeated cell raids, during which she has been beaten and exposed to tear gas. The latest such incident occurred just two days prior to the visit. She has also been subjected to ongoing harassment and insults, with surveillance cameras monitoring her continuously.

Al-Taweel's health has been affected, with reports of dryness in her eyes, skin, and hands, as well as numbness in her hands caused by handcuffs. Prior to her transfer to solitary confinement, she suffered from scabies, compounded by harsh detention conditions and the deprivation of basic necessities.

Her living conditions are extremely challenging, with inadequate food supplies and only discolored tap water available for drinking. She lacks clean clothes and the means to wash them. Her bedding is severely soiled, making her feel as though she is sleeping directly on the floor, and her blanket is in poor condition.

Al-Taweel stated that she was moved from Damon Prison to a solitary confinement section at Ramla Prison without explanation. On October 4, 2026, she was made to sign documents suggesting a transfer to Damon Prison, but instead, she was taken to solitary confinement at Ohaley Oz Prison in Beersheba, where she remains detained.
