United nations: The Palestinian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, has called on the Security Council and the global community to take decisive action to halt what he describes as the crimes of the Israeli occupation. Mansour's appeal highlights the ongoing issues of ethnic cleansing, the illegal occupation, and the settlement project, urging accountability and the realization of the Palestinian right to self-determination and independence.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Mansour addressed a letter to the President of the Security Council, Jerome Bonafont, in which he outlined statements and policies from Israeli officials that he argues are indicative of a plan to remove Palestinians from their land. Mansour claims these plans are coupled with increasing violence in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.
Mansour cited Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz's statements regarding the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and potential military operations in the West Bank. He also mentioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's declarations about settlement expansions and control over the Gaza Strip. Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's "Disengagement 710" plan, which aims to encourage the emigration of Palestinians from Gaza, was also highlighted as evidence of systematic forced displacement.
The envoy pointed to Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's intentions to establish new settlements and his threats against the Palestinian Authority. Mansour also addressed incitement and dehumanization from Israeli religious figures, which he believes lays the groundwork for ethnic cleansing.
Mansour reported on the recent demolition of Palestinian communities and the violence in the village of Al-Mughayyir, where nine Palestinians, including children, have been killed this year. He also noted the ongoing targeting of Palestinian refugee camps in the northern West Bank, resulting in displacement and destruction.
In the Gaza Strip, Mansour described the dire conditions facing the Palestinian population due to Israeli actions, including bombings, blockades, and the spread of diseases. He emphasized the humanitarian crisis, with 1.4 million people facing severe food insecurity.
Welcoming measures from countries like the UK, France, and Canada against settlement products, Mansour urged them to impose binding sanctions and end economic activities supporting the occupation. He called for comprehensive international actions to halt trade and investment benefiting the Israeli settlement project.
Mansour concluded by stressing the need for global accountability for Israeli crimes and the importance of international measures to support Palestinian rights and independence. He reiterated the necessity for the Security Council and international community to take responsibility and strengthen their actions against the occupation and settlement activities.
