Bologna: The Palestinian community in Italy launched on Wednesday an anti-Zionism and colonialism network. The Palestinian community announced in a press statement the formation of the Anti-Zionism and Anti-Colonialism Network for Palestine, which aims to reinforce the efforts in support of the Palestinian question and the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights to freedom, independence, and self-determination.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the formation of the network marks the culmination of concerted efforts among Italian and Palestinian activists over the past few months and following meetings involving many solidarity committees and associations; political parties, social, cultural, and trade union institutions, and academics and politicians in the Italian city of Bologna.
The network pursues a program designed to promote initiatives aimed at offering direct, effective solidarity to Palestine and supporting the Palestinian resistance, expanding the boycott against Israel and the parties engaging in various forms of support to Israel, reinforcing the struggle against Zionism and confronting its infiltration into various areas of politics, culture, and media.
The network program affirms opposition to Western policies, economies, and military institutions, such as NATO, which considers supporting Israel, the occupying power, strategic to maintaining control over the Middle East. It further affirms opposition to the policy of war pursued by the European Union and the Italian government.
The network program envisages carrying out activities and events at the national level in Italy, which would give the necessary impetus for coordination among concerned actors and taking collective action to confront Zionism along with the acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing it has been inflicting on the Palestinian people.
