Ramallah: The Palestinian Attorney General, Akram Al-Khatib, welcomed Felix Andaker, the Head of the European Union Mission for Palestinian Police and Rule of Law Support, marking Andaker's first official visit since taking office. The meeting, held on Thursday, also included representatives from the EU mission, notably Stu Sibanen, Head of the Justice Section, and Alaa Awad, Head of the Technical Office.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Al-Khatib emphasized the importance of the partnership with the European Union mission in advancing the justice sector in Palestine. He addressed the operational realities faced by the Public Prosecution amidst challenging circumstances, such as the risks associated with settler attacks, occupation measures, and economic hardships. These factors contribute to significant obstacles, such as hindrances in reaching courts and crime scenes, yet the Public Prosecution remains committed to its constitutional duty of upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice.
Al-Khatib highlighted recent institutional and legislative advancements within the Public Prosecution, including plans for specialized prosecution offices, digital transformation, and enhancing international judicial cooperation.
Felix Andaker expressed his admiration for the resilience of the Public Prosecution in maintaining its functions despite Palestine's challenges. He commended the determination of the Palestinian people and institutions in confronting ongoing adversities.
The EU delegation reiterated its dedication to maintaining its collaborative relationship with the Public Prosecution. They aim to continue building on the successes of joint programs and initiatives designed to bolster the justice sector and uphold the rule of law.
