Ankara: Turkey, alongside 53 other signatories, has issued a joint letter to the UN Security Council, urging immediate action to stop the flow of weapons to Israel, as disclosed by Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, during a news conference in Djibouti. This announcement comes in the wake of a joint initiative led by Turkey and supported by 52 countries and two international organizations, calling for a halt to arms supplies to Israel as of November 1, 2024.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Fidan underscored that Israel’s continued procurement of weapons and ammunition from other countries has intensified regional terror. He emphasized the need for a global stance against arms sales to Israel, equating it to complicity in genocide. Fidan further stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government poses a worldwide threat and urged nations to counter Israel’s violations of international law.
Fidan elaborated on the situation in Gaza, describing it as genocide and
accusing Netanyahu of attempting to dismantle the two-state solution by any means necessary. He expressed concerns over Netanyahu’s alleged efforts to expand the conflict into other regions, notably Lebanon, and called for unified action to deter further breaches of international law by Israel.
Moreover, Fidan reaffirmed Turkey’s support for African countries advocating for global justice, highlighting South Africa’s pivotal role in pursuing a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. He insisted that the existing global order, which perpetuates historical injustices, must evolve, predicting that African nations will spearhead this inevitable transformation due to their marginalization in the current international system.
