Paris: The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the French Republic have reaffirmed the necessity of taking practical steps, following a specific timeline, toward establishing an independent, sovereign Palestinian state based on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This initiative aims to ensure that the state can coexist in security and peace alongside Israel, adhering to the two-state solution as the sole path to achieving a just and lasting peace.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the affirmation was made in a joint statement after discussions between Jordanian King Abdullah II and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. The leaders emphasized enforcing the New York Declaration issued on July 29, 2025. They voiced their opposition to any Israeli attempts to annex the West Bank or displace Palestinian people and condemned the illegitimate 'E1' colonial settlement project.
The statement also highlighted the importance of maintaining the historical and legal status quo of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. President Emmanuel Macron underscored the significance of the Hashemite Custodianship over these sites.
Both leaders stressed the need to implement U.S. President Donald Trump's plan for Gaza's stability and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025), advocating for civilian protection and unhindered humanitarian aid delivery to the region.
