New York: The United Nations has rejected Israel's proposal to deliver aid to Gaza under the control of its forces. The proposal, which aimed to use Israeli military checkpoints for the distribution of supplies, was deemed to violate fundamental humanitarian principles.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the UN Humanitarian Country Team in Gaza expressed concerns that Israel's plan would strengthen control over vital supplies as a pressure tactic, part of a broader military strategy. The proposed mechanism would have required UN approval to distribute aid, subject to conditions imposed by the Israeli military.
The UN team warned that this approach could force civilians into military zones to collect rations, posing risks to both civilians and aid workers. It raised concerns about potential further forced displacement resulting from the implementation of such a strategy. The United Nations emphasized that it can only support plans that adhere to the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, independence, and impartiality.
