Ramallah: The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) has raised serious concerns about the ongoing conditions within Israel's prison system, alleging a systematic approach of neglect and abuse aimed at Palestinian detainees. The organization claims this approach is designed to inflict both physical and psychological harm on detainees.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the PPS has accused the Israeli prison authorities of implementing a deliberate slow-death policy. This strategy, the PPS states, has resulted in the deaths of numerous detainees since the onset of what they describe as Israel's war of extermination. The society highlights that legal visits to detainees and monitoring of released prisoners show a worrying rise in chronic illnesses among this population.
The organization further reports that the vast majority of detainees suffer from at least one health issue, signaling an orchestrated health crisis. The PPS warns that the presence of diseases and epidemics within the prison system is escalating, contributing to an increase in prisoner deaths. They specifically mention the widespread outbreak of scabies, affecting thousands, as well as other undiagnosed illnesses. Many released detainees have required immediate hospital care, only to discover severe chronic conditions previously unrecognized.
