Jerusalem: Israeli police detained 25 protesters on Sunday during their participation in a strike called for by the families of prisoners held in the Gaza Strip, demanding an end to the war and the return of the detainees.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that the Israeli police suppressed the protesters in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv using water cannons after they attempted to block several streets, tunnels, and bridges. The police were quoted as saying that the protesters blocked main roads, burned tires, and disrupted traffic.
Earlier in the day, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the first activities of the general strike commenced with hundreds of women blocking the northern section of the vital Ayalon Highway in central Tel Aviv.
