Israeli Knesset approves, in preliminary reading, bill to deport families of “attackers”

The Israeli Knesset's Committee Tuesday approved, in preliminary reading, a bill allowing the deportation of family members of individuals who carry out attacks against Israelis. This bill will soon be presented to the Knesset for second and third readings and a final vote before becoming law. Under the proposed bill, the so-called Israeli Interior Minister can order the deportation of family members if they were aware of the attacker's plans, expressed support for the attack, or praised the attacker publicly. The bill stipulates that if the attacker is a citizen of Israel, their family members could be deported for seven years, and If the attacker is from the 1967-occupied territories, the deportation period could extend to ten years.
