Israeli Court Imposes House Arrest on Widow of Slain Prisoner Walid Daqqa for Alleged Incitement Charges

Hadera: An Israeli court in the city of Hadera, located within the 1948 territories, ordered the house arrest of Sanaa Salameh Daqqa, the widow of slain Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqa, on Thursday. The charges relate to alleged online incitement activities.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Daqqa, who resides in Baqa al-Gharbiyye, was placed under a 10-day house arrest at her mother's residence in the city of Tira. In addition to the house arrest, the court imposed a travel ban and set a bail amount of 20,000 shekels.

Israeli police have expressed opposition to her release and are reportedly considering an appeal against the court's decision. Daqqa's arrest occurred last week in occupied Jerusalem while she was with her daughter, Milad. The arrest was prompted by a demand from far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who called for her deportation, claiming she had posted inciteful content on social media platforms.

Walid Daqqa, Sanaa's late husband, died in Israeli custody in April 2024 after serving 38 years in prison. His body is still being held by Israeli authorities.
