Abu Falah:The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has condemned the attack on American photojournalist Heidi Levine by Israeli colonists in the village of Abu Falah, northeast of Ramallah. Levine, who is under contract with The Washington Post, was injured in the assault and required hospital treatment. The attack occurred under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the syndicate described the incident as a crime targeting journalists performing their professional duties, highlighting a pattern of intimidation aimed at silencing those documenting Israeli occupation activities and colonist violations against Palestinians. The syndicate emphasized that this attack on Levine, a seasoned journalist with over four decades of experience covering conflict zones, is a grave violation of press freedom and the public's right to information.
The syndicate criticized the role of Israeli occupation forces in the attack, urging them to fulfill their legal responsibilities and warning against impunity for such acts. It called on the United Nations, international media, and human rights organizations to take decisive action beyond issuing statements of condemnation.
Additionally, the syndicate urged the US government and State Department to exert pressure for accountability and to prevent further attacks on journalists, whether Palestinian, American, or international. It also appealed to media organizations to leverage their influence to ensure a thorough investigation and protection for journalists, and to address violence and incitement against media personnel.
The incident was characterized as part of a broader trend of escalating assaults on journalists, aimed at preventing them from reporting on events and uncovering the truth. The syndicate called for thorough documentation of these attacks to ensure accountability and justice.
