Jerusalem: Israeli occupation authorities forced a Palestinian family to demolish their own home on Tuesday in the town of Silwan, located south of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Jerusalem Governorate reported that the Israeli municipality compelled Mahmoud Berqan to carry out the demolition of his family's home, located in the Wadi Yasul neighborhood of Silwan, in order to avoid heavy fines and additional punitive measures.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the house, which has stood for five years, spans 100 square meters and was home to seven family members. The decision to self-demolish was driven by the threat of significant financial penalties and other actions by Israeli authorities, which frequently pressure Palestinian residents into demolishing their own homes under such terms.
