Tel Aviv: The Israeli Foreign Ministry has officially informed the United Nations of its decision to cancel the agreement established with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in 1967. This agreement has been pivotal in regulating relief operations in Gaza and the West Bank for decades. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, this announcement was made through the Israeli representative to the United Nations, emphasizing the Israeli government's stance. The government expressed that while it continues to collaborate with humanitarian organizations, it will no longer engage with entities it believes "serve terrorism." UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini responded, highlighting the potential repercussions of dismantling the agency without a viable substitute. He noted that such an action could lead to the deprivation of education for Palestinian children, stressing that efforts should concentrate on ending the ongoing conflict rather than targeting the agency or devising alternatives to it.
