Dublin: Irish President Michael Higgins urged the UN chief to invoke powers under Chapter Seven of the UN Charter against Israel over its ongoing genocidal aggression against Gaza and use of starvation as a method of warfare, according to RT€š¬° news. He emphasized that air dropping food in Gaza was insufficient, stating that it “means the people who are very vulnerable, the lame, the old and the young cannot in fact get that food easily.”
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Higgins expressed his inability to stand in public and discuss cultural matters while witnessing the destruction of an entire population on television. He urged UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres to utilize the UN Charter procedures designed to assist the people of Gaza, highlighting that Chapter VII could facilitate the creation of an international defense corridor to allow aid into the area.
Higgins criticized the blockade preventing 6,000 trucks with enough food for three months from entering Gaza, describing the situation as “outrageous.” He noted the dire circumstances where children lack medicine, and mothers face dehydration and malnutrition while watching their children suffer.
He called for immediate practical actions from the international community, stating that delays until September were unacceptable. Higgins reiterated his previous suggestion that Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter could ensure safe access to aid.
