Cairo: The International Conference on Jerusalem, held under the auspices of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations, has highlighted Jerusalem as a critical focal point of displacement and annexation, while underscoring its key role in achieving a just and lasting peace. According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the conference commenced with a speech from Ambassador Dr. Dawas Dawas, Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Jerusalem Affairs, who spoke on behalf of the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Dawas emphasized Jerusalem's central status as the capital of the State of Palestine and an integral part of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967. He detailed the systematic policies and actions by Israel aimed at altering the city's historical, legal, and demographic character, which include settlement expansion and land confiscations. Dawas further warned about the increasing attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites, particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque, citing violations through settler incursions and restrictions on worship. He condemned the ongoing excavations near the mosque and the Old City, which threaten the cultural and human heritage of Jerusalem. The ambassador declared all Israeli actions that attempt to erase the Palestinian identity of Jerusalem as null and void under international law. He called for urgent international intervention to halt Israeli settlement plans and displacement policies in the West Bank and urged global leaders to support a two-state solution and recognize the State of Palestine in the United Nations. The conference saw participation from high-level figures, including Mr. Ashraf Al-Awar, Minister of Jerusalem Affairs, and Ambassador Mahmoud Omar from Egypt, among others. Discussions focused on reinforcing international efforts to protect Jerusalem's identity and support Palestinian resilience. This annual conference is part of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's coordination with international bodies, inclu ding the United Nations, to keep Jerusalem at the forefront of the Palestinian cause and organizational priorities.
