Inter-Parliamentary Union Unanimously Adopts Two-State Solution

Gaza: The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) unanimously adopted a resolution on the two-state solution on Wednesday, recognizing the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination: The resolution addressed the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the genocide perpetrated against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice ruling that the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory is illegal.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the resolution also called for strengthening the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and supporting it. The vice president of the National Council of the State of Palestine, and head of the Palestinian delegation, Moussa Hadid, welcomed the resolution.

In his comments before the General Assembly of the IPU, Hadid emphasized that although the resolution paves the way for ending the occupation, it must include the necessity of imposing economic sanctions on Israel, the occupying power, halting the supply of weapons and military equipment to it, ending military cooperation with it, ending its occupation, condemning its crimes, and eliminating inequality between the colonizer and the people under occupation.

The Palestinian delegation, in cooperation with the parliaments of Arab, Islamic, African, and friendly countries, was able to counter all the unfair amendments that the Israeli delegation and some parliaments of countries allied with and supporting the occupying power attempted to introduce into the resolution. The amendments include a denial of the occupation’s use of starvation as a means of war to pressure the Palestinian people and displace them from their land, and an attack on UNRWA and the Palestinian people, branding them as terrorists.

The Israeli delegation was absent from the session, and the United States is not a member of the EU.
