Ramallah: The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics announced on Sunday that the industrial production index in Palestine decreased by 1.15% in May 2026 compared with April.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency, the bureau stated that the industrial production index fell to 75.79 points in May, down from 76.68 points in April. The report highlighted that electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply activities recorded a decline of 7.98%, which accounted for 7.38% of the total industrial activity. Mining and quarrying fell by 4.56%, representing 2.89% of the industrial sector. Additionally, water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities decreased by 0.54%, making up 1.84% of the total industry.
Furthermore, manufacturing activities saw a slight decline of 0.16% in May 2026 compared with the previous month, accounting for 87.89% of total industrial activity. Among the primary manufacturing sub-sectors that contributed to the decline were non-metallic mineral products, food products, tobacco products, paper and paper products, printing and recorded media reproduction, leather and related products, and rubber and plastic products.
Conversely, there was an increase in several manufacturing activities, including fabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment), chemicals and chemical products, furniture, basic pharmaceutical products and preparations, clothing, beverages, and textiles.
