Icelandic Broadcaster Votes Against Eurovision 2027 Participation Over Israel’s Inclusion

Reykjavik:Six of the nine members of the Icelandic public broadcaster R€š¬¦¡V's board have voted to withdraw from the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest unless Israel is excluded from participating.

According to Palestine news & Information Agency - WAFA - English, the board members directed R€š¬¦¡V's director to notify the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) of Iceland's decision. This move reinforces their previous stance on seeking Israel's exclusion from the contest.

R€š¬¦¡V Board Chairman Stef¡n J³n Hafstein stated that the majority of the board has maintained their position, expressing dissatisfaction with the EBU's lack of a decisive stance on the matter.

Iceland previously boycotted the 2026 contest, joining several other countries in protest against Israel's participation. Ireland has also declared its non-participation in the 2027 contest, while Spain and Slovenia have not yet finalized their decisions. The Netherlands, however, plans to rejoin the event.

The 2027 Eurovision Song Contest is set to be hosted in Burgas, Bulgaria, in May.
