Germany Criticizes Israeli Aid Distribution in Gaza

Berlin: The German government has sharply criticized the method used by the “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation” for distributing aid to civilians in Gaza, stating that it fails to meet established humanitarian standards.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the Israeli authorities commenced a plan on May 27 to deliver limited aid to Gaza’s civilians through the “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.” This approach notably bypasses the supervision of the United Nations and other international relief organizations. The German government, in response to a parliamentary inquiry from the Green Party, expressed concerns that the current mechanism does not adequately reach civilians nor adhere to humanitarian principles.

The German government described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as dire and stressed the need for alleviating civilian suffering in accordance with international humanitarian law. It highlighted reports of fatalities among individuals attempting to access aid, demanding a thorough investigation into these incidents.

Germany called on Israel to uphold its obligations under international humanitarian law to safeguard Palestinian civilians and ensure the effective delivery of aid. It urged for the reinstatement of UN-led, impartial humanitarian operations in Gaza and requested that Israel permit aid organizations to operate independently and securely.

Since March 2, 2025, all crossings into Gaza have been closed by Israel, preventing the entry of essential food and medical supplies. This blockade has resulted in widespread famine within the territory.
