Gaza city: Medical sources said on Sunday that the death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 61,944, the majority of whom are children and women, since the start of the Israeli aggression on October 7, 2023. The ongoing conflict has resulted in a significant loss of life and has had a profound impact on the civilian population.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the death toll has reached 155,886 since the onset of the aggression. Many victims remain trapped under rubble, inaccessible to ambulances and civil defense teams. The past 24 hours witnessed 47 individuals killed, including 9 who were recovered, and 226 others wounded and taken to hospitals within the Gaza Strip.
Since March 18, when the ceasefire agreement was violated, the toll of deaths and injuries has been substantial, with 10,400 lives lost and 43,845 individuals wounded. The escalation has severely strained the region's medical infrastructure and emergency response capabilities.
The sources further explained that 14 slain aid-seekers were taken to hospitals over the past 24 hours, with 132 injured, bringing the total number of slain aid-seekers at hospitals to 1,938, and the total number of injured to 14,420. The humanitarian situation remains dire, exacerbated by the ongoing conflict.
Gaza hospitals also recorded seven deaths attributed to starvation and malnutrition in the last 24 hours, including two children. This brings the total number of starvation-related deaths to 258, of which 110 were children, highlighting the critical humanitarian needs in the region.
