Paris: Around 300 French-speaking writers, including two Nobel laureates in literature, Annie Ernaux and Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clezio, have condemned the genocide of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip in an op-ed published Tuesday, calling for "an immediate ceasefire." According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the writers expressed their concerns in an op-ed published by the French daily Liberation. They emphasized the urgency of condemning the crimes committed against civilians on October 7, 2023, as war crimes and crimes against humanity. The writers insist on labeling the ongoing situation as a genocide. The letter calls for sanctions against the State of Israel and insists on an immediate cease-fire, ensuring safety and justice for Palestinians. The writers demand the release of hostages and thousands of Palestinian prisoners who are allegedly detained arbitrarily in Israeli prisons. Additionally, they urge an immediate end to what they describe as genocide. Among the signatories are r ecent Goncourt Prize laureates, such as Herve Le Tellier, Jerome Ferrari, Laurent Gaude, Brigitte Giraud, Leila Slimani, Lydie Salvayre, Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, Nicolas Mathieu, and Eric Vuillard.
