Ramallah: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Monday briefed members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the State of Palestine on the risks arising from the Israeli Knesset’s decision to prohibit the operations of the UN relief agency (UNRWA) and on the diplomatic efforts underway to address this issue.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, this briefing took place during a special session held at the ministry’s headquarters in Ramallah, chaired by Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. The meeting saw the participation of ambassadors, consuls, and representatives from over 45 countries and international organizations.
Minister Shahin expressed her concerns over the Israeli Knesset’s designation of UNRWA as a “terrorist” organization. She stated that this action represents a violation of the basic rights of Palestinian refugees and poses a threat to regional stability and international humanitarian principles.
She called on al
l countries to reassess their relationships with Israel and to apply pressure to ensure that it adheres to international law. Additionally, she highlighted the importance of sustaining support for UNRWA to continue its operations.
Minister Shahin appealed to donor countries to reaffirm their commitments to the Palestinian people and to work towards securing emergency funding for UNRWA to ensure the uninterrupted provision of its services.
